Life is a masterpiece in the making, a work of art that is constantly evolving and unfolding. Every moment, every decision, every action, and every thought is a brushstroke on the canvas of life, adding depth, color, and texture to our unique story.
The Canvas of Life Life begins as a blank canvas, waiting to be filled with the vibrant colors of our experiences, emotions, and relationships. The initial brushstrokes of our journey set the tone for the masterpiece that is to come. As we navigate through life, our canvas becomes a kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and patterns, reflecting our growth, learning, and transformation.
"Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint you can on it." - Danny Kaye
The Colors of Life :
The colors of life are the experiences that shape us, the emotions that add depth and texture, and the relationships that bring connection and meaning. Every moment is an opportunity to add a new color to our canvas, to explore new hues and shades, and to create a masterpiece that reflects our unique perspective.
The Textures of Life :
The textures of life are the challenges that test our resolve, the smooth moments that bring comfort and peace, and the transformation that comes from growth and learning. Every moment is an opportunity to add a new texture to our canvas, to explore new dimensions and depths, and to create a masterpiece that reflects our resilience and strength.
"The texture of experience is prior to everything else." - Stanley Cavell
The Brushstrokes of Life :
The brushstrokes of life are the decisions that shape our destiny, the actions that take us closer to our goals, and the thoughts that shape our mindset. Every moment is an opportunity to make a new brushstroke, to choose a new direction, and to create a masterpiece that reflects our purpose and meaning.
"Life is a painting, and you are the artist" - Debasish Mridha
The Art of Living :
The art of living is the art of mindfulness, self-expression, and connection. It is the art of living in the present moment, of embracing our uniqueness, and of building meaningful relationships. Every moment is an opportunity to practice the art of living, to cultivate mindfulness, authenticity, and connection, and to create a masterpiece that reflects our beauty and humanity.
"To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it." - Kurt Vonnegut
There may have been many unfortunate events in your life that you regret or hate with everything you have. Everything seems so clouded as to why this keeps happening to you. We end up entering bad scenarios again and again right after surviving the last one.
But do you really believe that happiness is everything that you need to survive? Or to enjoy happiness itself? Some unforeseen unfortunate events are somewhat necessary to teach us life lessons. The so called betrayal that you faced from a loved one was there to teach you to not trust the wrong people, it makes you mentally resilient to future circumstances.
Imagine yourself having 3 pancakes everyday for breakfast. You cook them and have them everyday for the next year. Do you think you’ll enjoy them everyday? Do you think you’ll wake up and be excited to taste the same thing over and over again? You might be able to change the toppings but the pancake remains the same.
Now think of it in terms of happiness. Do you really believe if nothing bad happened to you for an entire year, you didn’t feel any negative emotions and only had good things happening to you that you would be the happiest person on Earth? That is completely false.
You would get tired of it eventually, and anything that is overflowing in our lives, we end up losing respect and gratitude for it. You won’t be grateful for the good things happening to you anymore because why would you? It’s been happening everyday for the last year, so not only do we get bored but it also makes our lives even more miserable.
Our life without gratitude is like an empty bone, a solid outer covering but empty from within. If you were to have a smooth ride the entire time, it would get monotonous. The ups and downs are absolutely necessary. Athletes that don’t eat sugary items for a few months literally have tears in their eyes when they eat even a single donut after their campaigns.
The feeling of gratitude is irreplaceable. That is the only thing that can make our lives better.
Each event in your life is equivalent to a brush stroke, you being the brush but being unable to control the art you put out, but what you can do is alter your perception. The human being sees the world through its own opinions and views, two people at the same place and time view the world differently depending on what is going on in their lives.
Two people cannot have same experiences even though they are performing the same activity, it’s all up to us and our feelings.
It is stupid to judge a painting midway through the process. You cannot call the artist bad just because you’ve only seen the beginning of it yet, the artists knows what it’s doing and you shouldn’t be raising questions. The artist being God himself, the canvas being life and you my friend are the brush.
Do not pause midway to judge the painting, but instead appreciate every stroke that lays its fibrils on the canvas. Do not compare other paintings to your own, each of them have something planned in their head and have a path of their own.
You have nothing to worry about, you’re only a soul experiencing life. You’re only a brush that is being used to paint, but the good news is you get to decide how you view your painting. You can also change the painting sometimes, only if you have enough will power.
If you try to go against the artist and try to paint something of your own, you’ll break down. Learn to flow. What you resist, persists.
Have hope that the painting is going in a good direction and trust the painter.
A special thanks to Richa, the other author on this article. She deserves an equal amount of credit for our work.
Have faith,
Praise God.
With love and gratitude,
Harshit and Richa.
So beautiful! I loved the color and brushstroke analogy. The line about not judging a painting mid-way through was so powerful! How many times do we make judgments about life situations when they're still in the process of unfolding? One of my favorite mantras is everything is always in process. It reminds me to be patient with life, even if that's not always easy! That was also such a great reminder that if everything was perfect, we'd get bored. I think humans are so good at creating problems. We'd probably start complaining everything is too perfect!
Great work my friends, Richa and Harshit! Your styles mix very well.
“The feeling of gratitude is irreplaceable. “Love this statement. I recently came to the following conclusion: “Life without gratitude, is not a life but a waste of time” Do you guys agree?
