change in perspective
To achieve certain things in life there are some hard decisions you must make, there are times where the road that is meant to be taken is filled with thorns and hardships. But that should not make you deviate, rather it should motivate you to walk it, because there are only a few people in the world that can make it through.
You need to understand that the higher you wanna go in life, the more you wanna grow, the harder the decisions are going to become, and the obstacles will only keep growing, just like a video game.
Our life is nothing more than a video game, there are levels, bosses, and achievements. It is up to you whether you wanna complete it or sit down and cry about facing defeat. Everything is an experience, you’re here to experience things, not contemplate your past.
The movie whiplash is the greatest example of what I’m writing. The character goes to such extreme lengths just to become who he has always wanted to be, he gives up on everything around him, all his relationships, his friends and even dumps his girlfriend because he needed all of that time to become great, to invest it into a bigger purpose. Trust me, whatever you’re worried about right now won’t even be on your mind in the next five years, don’t even waste a minute thinking about it, use that power of imagination to imagine a better life for yourself, your thoughts shape reality.
Growing becomes easier when you’re doing it with a friend or a partner, but sooner or later there’s going to be a path where you’ll have to leave alone and outgrow the person that was with you till this part of the journey.
Sometimes hard decisions are meant to be made, the more attached you are to people, the harder it gets trying to move ahead. Your sole focus should be on yourself, I know this sounds weird but it is true, real work requires zero distraction. You need laser sharp focus, and that is usually distorted if the people around have opposing views or don’t have the same hunger as you.
Some people have a head start in life, some don’t, some have exceptional abilities and some have to work for it, nothing is fair. But the truth is, you only go as far as you really want to go. If you really want it, you’ll find a way to get it.
The problem with having people in your inner circle that don’t have the same mindset as you is that sooner or later you start adopting their habits, you start thinking ‘oh I can do this too just because they do it”. You start justifying your habits just because the person you admire or love also does it, but that just takes away your focus and hunger, it hurts the progress you have made.
Any person who has achieved great heights in this world has had to suffer being alone, the word suffer should not have been used here because it is up to you how you view the circumstance, but I’m going to use it regardless.
To achieve great things, you need to have the strength to make the right decisions, and sometimes the right decision is the hardest. But if you really want to make it, you’ll find a way to get it done. You need to learn to stay alone, not being able to stay alone is a great weakness in my eyes, you need to have the courage to be all by yourself and still thrive. If you can’t go two minutes without talking to someone then you need to introspect and think about what you’re doing in life.
The counterargument is that we’re social animals and are meant to be in groups but none of that matters when your goal is succeeding, sometimes staying in groups can make you average, and I don’t think average is your goal, is it?
You’re lucky if the people around you match your views, that way the rate of your growth actually increases. I have one other guy in my life that views the world exactly like this and I’ll always be grateful to have him, he recently swam 2 kilometers in the sea and I will always be proud of his achievements, I celebrate them like they’re my own.
On the other hand there will be a moment where you realize that some people in your life will hinder your progress, no matter how important they are to you, you have to outgrow the grass, that is the only way forward. Don’t be afraid to make such decisions, those are the ones that will separate you from the crowd.
It’ll always be hard making such decisions, you’ll contemplate things, you’ll question yourself, your moral values will step in but do not let that change your mind, you know what you need to do, just find the balls to do so.
In the Godfather Part II, the hardest part in Michael Corleone’s life is when he has to kill his own brother because he’s weak and is sabotaging Michael’s life and business, his weakness nearly resulted in the death of Michael’s family, despite all the things in between, he ordered the assassination knowing that it was the right thing to do. It wasn’t easy, although this is fiction, one can imagine themselves in his shoes and try to understand how difficult it must’ve been. But what needs to be done, needs to be done.
Do whatever you are afraid of doing, that is the path you need to walk, show some courage, show the world that you deserve what you’re asking for, walk with your head held high and be true to God and yourself, that is what matters in the end. You’ve been born to become great, not to succumb to societal norms and spend half your life chasing validation and attention on Instagram.
Become who you’ve always wanted to become.
Your life rests in your own hands, no one’s coming to save you.
Praise God
With love and gratitude,
Harshit.
